The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) joining the electric bandwagon has announced to extend it support to the electric auto-rickshaw movement.

The motive behind joining the bandwagon is to support green movement in the country and conserve fuel. The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) is currently working on a technology to convert the petrol-run auto rickshaws into electric models. However, their concern is that people may not easily switch to an electric model owing to expenses. But they also believe that citizens will move the electric way if the public and private transport entities make an effort to go electric.

With the government’s push to render 30 per cent of all vehicles in the country to electric ones by 2030, it is essential that consistent and active steps are taken in that direction, starting right away. While ARAI also assists other auto firms to bring in their electric vehicles, we are now focusing on the three-wheeler segment, where efforts are being made to convert the auto-rickshaws into electric models,” said Rashmi Urdhwareshe, Director- ARAI.

Along with introducing new electric vehicles, one must also focus on turning existing vehicles into electric ones. This will not just benefit an individual but will help the country as a whole with regards to cost efficiency, for a cleaner and greener environment,” added Urdhwareshe.

The engineering major may tie up with several automobile players to share expertise to bring in the electric revolution in the country.
