Niti Aayog asks oil ministry to help in setting up EV charging infra across the country

Niti Aayog has asked the oil ministry to help it in setting up electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across the country.  The electric vehicle charging infrastructure will be set up at 1,000 fuel stations.

ET reports that such move will require redesigning of stations and a viable business model, and it may be difficult for the industry players to comply with the directive.

Easy access to charging facility will play a significant role to make EV popular in the country where cities are choking with vehicle emissions. This has also propelled the government to chalk new ways to create an ecosystem favourable to green vehicles.

India is slowly and steadily inching closer to its e-mobility goals, however there are some of the major barriers to this initiative, barriers like lack of proper infrastructure, lack of adequate technology and shortage of people working in this space.

So far NITI Aayog has maintained a positive and holistic approach and has been suggesting ways to boost the adoption of electric vehicles in India.

The central government as a part of the FAME II scheme has proposed setting up of 2,700 charging stations, with the availability of at least one charging station in a 3km x 3km grid.
