Ola gearing up to showcase concept EVs including three-wheeler and four-wheeler:Report

Ola is reportedly gearing up to showcase its concept electric vehicles, including an electric three-wheeler and four wheelers.

Business Standard reports that Ola is already in talks with number of vendor for the components, including lithium battery to roll out a commercial model. Battery accounts for over 50 per cent of the EV cost.

The publication citing sources notes that the cab aggregator could manufacture the electric vehicle on its own or may tie-up with other company and have complete control over the manufacturing process. However, final decision on the commercialization aspect for the vehicle is yet to be taken.

Ola gathered valuable insights on the needs and challenges of building a e-vehicle ground-up for Indian markets from its multi-modal project in Nagpur, in which electric cars, autos, buses and e-rickshaws ran in tandem.

Ola is not the only player in this game, startups are mushrooming and established players like Mahindra, Hero have already grabbed a part of their share in this market. Bajaj Auto, one of the largest players in the three-wheeler space is also working on models for electric rickshaws. It has also demonstrated some of them. Mahindra recently launched Treo range of electric three wheelers, the variants include Treo electric auto and Treo Yaari electric rickshaw, both available in the industry first hard top weather proof variants.
