In a bid to make the apartments go green, Bescom in Karnataka has launched a campaign, offering 20%-40% of the project cost as subsidy to individual houses, group housing communities and resident welfare associations to install rooftop solar units.
According to reports-Bescom’s new campaign is part of Soura Gruha Yojane Phase 2 or grid-connected solar rooftop project.
Bescom plans to instal 5,900MW of solar rooftop capacity in the city.
TOI reports that the subsidy is open to all those who apply between March 15 and March 25 for setting up 1kW-10kW SRTPV units on their rooftops.
The applications could close earlier once the capacity fulfilment of 60MW for individual apartments and 30MW for group housing societies and RWAs is reached.
Those installing rooftop solar can sell excess power to Bescom for 25 years.
RWA speaking to the publication said that only few bidders responded to Bescom’s EOI,
said Vishnu Gattupalli, secretary of Bangalore Apartments’ Federatio speaking to TOI said “Only empanelled solar vendors who win the bid will implement this scheme and central financial assistance from the ministry of new and renewable energy is given only if the vendor uses domestic solar modules made using domestic solar cells.”
