Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has installed and commissioned 428 KWp rooftop solar at Nanganallur Road metro station and Meenambakkam station.
According to reports the installed rooftop solar power plants has power generation capacity of around 57,780 units per month and is expected to save around Rs 26.34 lakh per year for the metro.
Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) will be using energy generated from solar plant to power major portion of the operations in the future. CMRL is also working towards using solar power for operation of trains eventually.
Currently CMRL will use the power from the rooftop solar for lighting systems and to operate electrical equipment required for the maintenance of the stations.
So far, CMRL has a total installed capacity of 4.1 MWp solar power which included those installed at its head office in Koyambedu and a few other metro stations.
