JERC questions power dept on the inaccurate solar bills

The Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC)  has questioned reasons for the inaccurate bills after receiving a complaint of irregularities in solar power net meter billing by the electricity department.

According to ET Nigel Coelho, an aggrieved solar power consumer in his complaint stated that the department hadn’t credited him and other solar prosumers for the surplus power their rooftop plants exported to the grid. Instead of compensating him for the surplus units, he was issued a regular bill, adding that the bill should have accounted for the export of surplus energy.

JERC has asked for a “comprehensive note” to be submitted. JERC further stated “As per telephonic interaction and the status provided by you, the electricity department Goa was resolving issues of readings and billing software. Accordingly, it is requested to give reasons that have caused the generation of the above at the consumer’s end.”

The department will also have to apprise the complainant of a settlement plan and inform the commission of its status within a week.
