MNRE discusses on availability of land with states for green energy developers: report

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has reportedly discussed with state governments on the availability of land for renewable energy project so that green energy developers do not have to face any hurdle during the implementation of the project.

The ministry discussed to find out how much land the states are willing to set aside for renewable energy parks.

The discussion with the state comes soon after the recent announcement by the ministry that it will ensure that land and transmission facilities are in place for developers who win wind and solar projects in auctions conducted by SECI.

A central government official speaking to ET on condition of anonymity said, MNRE officials discussed about the availability of land with their counterparts in Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, the official added that meetings with Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Karnataka are in the offing.

The ministry wants the states to identify actual parcels of land where projects can be set up, so that developers can bid comfortably without worrying about the land needed. The ministry will also make sure Power Grid Corporation of India provides connectivity in these places too. PGCIL is already working on extending its transmission, said the official to the publication.

According to the report Gujarat has agreed to provide land to accommodate 10,000 MW; Andhra will be giving space for 8000 MW, while Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh have offered land for 19,000 MW and 5,000 MW, respectively.

The ministry have already identified broad areas of land , in a month or two SECI will start floating more tenders, added the official.

The publication notes that the ministry is positive that these meetings will ameliorate any differences that may have arisen with the states.
